Taking Advantage of Air Conditioner Rebates

Topics: Air Conditioner Rebates, Rebates

HVAC rebates, including air conditioner rebates, represent a great opportunity to recoup some of the money you spend on your HVAC equipment. As part of the Ontario ‘Save On Energy’ Heating and Cooling initiative, you have access to various rebates depending on the equipment you install. While most people are aware of these rebates, many are unsure about how to access them or that buying from a participating dealer is a requirement.

Air conditioner rebates are available for residents and businesses in Ontario who have purchased and installed eligible central heating or cooling equipment through a participating contractor.

How much are we talking about? You may qualify to receive a $250 rebate for installing a new ENERGY STAR air conditioner. If you install a more efficient stand-alone CEE unit, you may qualify for $400. There is also a potential $250 rebate available when you install a furnace equipped with an Electronically Commutated Motor (ECM).

Be aware that there is a timeline – you can’t just leave this to the last minute or save it for a year or two and hope that the government will honour it. To qualify for the current rebate, equipment must be installed by a participating contractor by June 30, 2017. Your contractor must enter your online incentive by July 8, 2017 and you must submit your proof of purchase on or before August 1, 2017.

As mentioned, to qualify, all services (including purchase and installation) must be performed by a participating contractor. This means that the contractor has met certain regulated requirements, including holding certain licenses and certifications, and participation in certain training programs. They must also have a signed Contractor Participation Agreement.

Air conditioner rebates can be tough to navigate on your own, so it is always easier to have a partner who can help you make your way through the process. You want to get them right, the first time, to avoid delays (and missing the deadline).

With air conditioner rebates, the Ontario government is essentially offering you free money as reward for caring about the environment and making your home more energy efficient – why not take advantage?
